LALA KARMELA: “Empire Records is one of the favorite movies that I love during the 90's. Killer soundtrack!”

Do you think the '90s is the last rebellious and most original music scene?
Yeah haha well when it comes to the 90's I can be very biased because I grew up with 90s music. So, Yes.
What's so great about the '90s culture?
I feel during that time the music has more originality to it, lyric-wise specially. Musicians express themselves more as they are, these days I see a lot of things are so concepted, their not bad but just not purely original.
How is the music scene when you were growing up? What kind of music and films do you watch that influences you?
I listened to a lot of alt music from Weezer, Alanis Morissette, and Of course Radiohead. I watched a lot of teen movies like American Pie, The Faculty, 10 things I hate about you.. But Empire Records is one of the favorite movies that I love during the 90's. Killer soundtrack!
The songs in your album have a pretty wide genre. What are the sounds and songs gonna be like for the next album?
I'm heading back towards the 80's era, their dance beats are in my head lately and I want to combine them with the sounds of today.. I hope I can deliver something fresh yet nostalgic.
What do you love most: performing live, recording or just writing up new songs?
I love all three, its a journey. But now Im really enjoying the writing process because Im now in progress making my next album.
What are your other passions that you have active interest in?
I kinda do have active interest in fashion! I must admit it's not the main thing I am best at but fashion is fun to explore, how I look has to relate to my music and its fun to mix and match. Its a tool for me to express myself and my music. I get to know myself better when exploring fashion. Like I know.. "Ok thats me, Im comfortable like this".
Why do you chose to be a singer as a career choice in the first place?
Music has been imbedded in me since I was young. I love to sing and perform, cant see myself without music. But I also have an interest in law, Im now studying law. For me law is critical, it can be connected to everything that I do in life.
Have you ever played in a band before? What's the best thing when ure in a band? and whats the worst thing when ur in a band? is it better to be a solo singer?
Yes, I had a band before called Inersia, today their known as Drew. Even now as a solo singer, I love it better when Im performing with my band. I love sharing the energy with them on stage.
So what's next for Lala Karmela?
My next album and a law degree.
