What’s the first things that you’ve learned when you became a tattoo artist?

Basis aku di design dan illustration, jadi mudah buat aku untuk mengenal dunia pertatoan..

 

Do you get people telling you their darkest stories when they get tattoed?

Sometimes.. Mostly about someone that has passed away..

 

So you have chosen to be a tattoo artist as a career choice. Are there any other passions?

Mm maybe yes.. I love it even more now than when i first started.. It has evolved so much in the last 8 years and for me everyday is still a challenge & adventure.. Other passion mungkin main musik.. 

 

Problem klasik tattoo artist adalah sulit untuk mentato diri sendiri. Siapa saja tattoo artist yang lo pilih utk mentato artwork-artwok di tubuh lo?

Aku punya tattoo yang aku buat sendiri.. Dulu waktu masih baru belajar.. Di badan aku banyak karya temen-temen tattoo artist.. Yang belom kesampean pingin ditato sama Niko Hurtado..

 

So what kind of music you’ve been hearing for tattoing or working inspirations lately?

Mmm kalo ditanya ini rada susah hehe.. Aku dengerin banyak musik.. Latest iTunes playlist aku lagi suka dengerin Best Coast sama the Bird and the Bee yang a tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates.

 

Ada tato di badan lo yang nyesel bikinnya ga?

Mmm sampe sekarang belom ada sih semuanya punya history.. Cuma ada tattoo yang aku coverup.. Karena ini cukup annoying kalo ketemu orang dikiranya coretan marker..

 

Saya baru liat dokumeter “Ink Blood and Spirit”, tentang tattoo artist yang cukup unik bernama Little Swastika. What do you think of his works? little-swastika.com/tatu

I love him! His works are marvelous.. Yup kalo dulu tattoo itu masih bisa di pisah-pisah dari genrenya.. Misalnya oldschool, realist, newschool, traditional, dll.. Tapi sekarang tato lebih meluas lagi.. Mungkin karena semakin berkembangnya tools yang diciptakan.. Seperti mesin tato dan tinta yang semakin beragam. Yup skin is just a canvas, graphic or even abstract painting bisa diabadikan diatas kulit.

 

What is your first tattoo and what is it about?

My first tattoo is four leaf clover, for good luck charm. 

 

At what point did you realize that you wanted to be a creative person professionally?

I’m working 7 days a week and 10-12 hours as a product designer and then the other side is as a tattoo artist, but i love it! The point is you have to fall in love with the idea of working at it.. Tanpa direncanain semuanya akan mengalir baik dengan sendirinya.

 

Who is your favorite role model? Or people who have great tattoos?

Mmm my fashion idol is Alexa Chung, Chloe sevigny & Debbie Harry. Kalo cewe bertato mmm Ira Chernova..

 

Any funny stories while you are tattoing?

Yup.. A girl with her mom and her new boyfriend visited my studio.. And the girl said “Aku dipaksa mama sama pacar aku coverup tato nama mantan aku kalo ga mau disetrika" dan tatonya ga kecil tapi half backpiece.. Pusing ngerjainnya siih tapi akhirnya selesai.. Dan itu juga dibayarin sama mamanya.. 

 

Last question: what are your other obsessions beside tattoos?

Mmm other obsessions maybe shoes.. Mungkin karena aku kerja jadi shoes designer..
